guys my understanding of it is that the 0225 fw can be written to the 9504 PCB directly, not spoofed.

exactly the same way you can write a samsung ms28 fw to a ms25 drive.

i read about someone trying to source a large quantity of the drives (9504) for this very purpose.

the two drives are almost identical and AFAIK it seems to be the only way to have a hacked drive in a 0225 console, unless they figure out how to remove the lock on the chip that is currently preventing us from flashing the drive.

run your orig nand though degraded and it will tell you any bad blocks and where to remap them

move the bad blocks using nandpro in your created FB image to mirror the remapping of the original nand image

write the final image to the mobo over usb/lpt as usual

the "stock" hard drives come from several manufacturers, hitachi are one of them.

they sell m$ the same type of drive you have, and then m$ format the drive to FATX and add the security sector to make it an "Xbox 360" hard drive.

just coz you have the same type hard drive doesnt mean you can write an HDSS.bin to it. its a coincidence.

If you had read up on the subject you would know that the only way to create a cloned drive is by using HDDHackr on a Western Digital drive only.

the site you seen were either selling original drives, or lying about the type of drive in them. i reckon its the latter.

that drive will work, but you will need to find a 250GB hdss.bin to use with hddhacker to clone it to a stock drive (easily found for free on internet)

instructions? in the readme of hddhackr its a good read.

hddhacker only works on western digital drives, it cannot write an hdss.bin to any other type of drive.

you would have known that if you had bothered to read up on the subject.

AFAIK you can download the demos and burn them to disc and they should run

if not you can transfer them to your hard drive using xplorer360 etc

BTW to no_name, demo's are not pirating, the companies make them available for free, so downloading them/discussing them is not against the site rules.

youve misunderstood me, i was referring to the challenge/response timings that caused the original iXtreme to be detected, not how fast the game loads.

wrong its not better, its just easier. thats the problem. you still get the same end result, a WD that behaves like a M$ one.

better would have been if they had actually reverse engineered the rest of the big drive manufacturers hdd's and figured out how to do this hack on all 2.5" sata drives (which they have had plenty of time and $$ to do) but no they simply morph an existing app into a bells and whistles addon for an overpriced SATA to USB converter, and preach that its somehow better.

You'll find the type of people who buy these products are making money out of the hacks themselves, rather than the home hobbyist who does it for fun/education, hence the need for large scale compatibility and quickness.

thats the problem with team x they shifted their focus from the hobbyist to the pirate IMHO.

my understanding is that all traffic on the dvd sata bus is encrypted with the dvdkey

how are you able to obtain that key without decryption?

would this not lead into dvd key retrieval for unmoddable drives?

surely the timings for challenges/responses etc would not match up using this kit? BAN!!

IMHO this would stick out 100 times more than the current LT fw, which has worked for the last year or so, and has forced m$ hand, showing they can and will flash the drive fw during an update.

one positive is that none of the currently released iso's would work either as the drive emulator would require a 1:1 copy of the disc rather than an Ixtreme patched one, which will piss the warez kiddies off also (nice!!). hence you would need to rip your own copy rather than leeching it (good for us peeps who actualy back up our own $#!t)

plus you will also need to retrieve your DVD key, which is pretty much 75% of the dvd fw hack anyway.
