please enlighten me, i was under the impression that a home created 120gb HDD would get you banned from live, am i correct or not?
the post about the time spent on security is a laugh, look how much effort m$ put into the hypervisor etc for it to be broken by a fw mod.
a chain is only as strong as its weakest link and that my friend is the fw.

I have a BenQ and i get terrible load in with GTA 4 especially when i am driving full welt.
this will hopefully make GTA IV perfect as it was the only problem i had with it.
perhaps it will improve loading times elsewhere like online where you wait for everyone to load the level.
I think it is a smart move for m$ as it will probably increase HDD sales for the 120GB, and get them more money vs the lost sales due to piracy.

once again giggles if you thought for a minute before you frantically try to up your post count you could write an answer to a query in one post instead of having to be corrected and having to apologise to people. Or [perhaps that is another tactic to up the count f*ck knows.
randomhero simple answer is use dosflash to dump your firmware and then use the latest FW toolbox to check the firmware to see what it is.
If it is older then you can grab your key and inject it into a new one and reflash it to your drive.
Good luck!

after reading the latest news from E3 i was surprised to hear m$ stating that soon we will be able to run our games from the HDD as long as we have the disc in the drive. I thought id start a discussion on the feasability of a new fw or modchip that will allow us to play ripped games with any disc or no disc in the drive. this means that our originals can be stored safely and we would not have the bother and expense of ripping and burning backups. let the disussion commence!!

yeah giggles like you can crack open a brand new xbox 360 before its given to you in a sealed box.
best be is to try and find a core or pro system that is older, still available if you go to some supermarkets like asda or tesco if in uk (example) the older systems will have a hackable drive.

Xbox 360 / Tech Support 360 / Blown pin header on mobo on 360 any ideas?
|
on: May 07, 2008, 10:18:02 AM

Hi i got a new 360 in from a mate and he let me swap out mine with his as his had the HDMI port and he didnt need/want one as he has no HDTV.
i had a clear case on mine with LED's etc and a talismoon whisper fan, so i set about swappin out everything and quickly found the 4 pin header had been relpaced on the new mobo with a 3 pin variant.
to cut a long story short i not only blew the original fans but the 3 pin header on the new mobo (no flaming plz wires are not the same on fans even though youd think they were lol). i gave my m8 my working 360 with new case and fans etc and i am left with the new 360 with a fooked header pin.
visually the board is perfect no burns or bad solder or marked traces etc stumped as to why the header is dead.
ATM got the box running temp on 12V mod with XCM fan but it is loud as hell and yesterday one of the fans (CPU one) has stopped spinning so its on its way out.
any1 have any ideas? any help is greatly appreciated.

sorry giggles but i have done this by mistake (or too much smoke!!) on a few lasers, both on 360 and on ps2 also yonks ago, the lasers defo wont work if powered on with the static point on, this will be verified by laser vendors too if there are any on here.

looks like it but without verifying model codes its impossible to see if it is the correct one.
replacing a laser is simple just open drive remove board, then remove the tiny screw holding the rail in and slip laser out watching all ribbon cables etc then put it back together
ps if you get a laser they should have small solder point to remove for anti static in shipping you must remove prior to install or it will kill the laser
good luck

be careful i managed to blow the header pin on my falcon board trying to put an older talismoon fan into it and had to run a 12v fan mod off the dvd drive to get a working fan which i cant control and is very loud!!

you answered yourself, no dont backup orig.bin as it does not contain the key of the machine it is destined for.
if the machine originally had a hitachi you must spoof the fw or you will get e65 if you have an updated kernel.

what is the reason that it wont read a disc? is it bricked or is it faulty ie bad laser or spindle motor.
if it is faulty then you can replace certain parts to make it work to read the fw, lasers and motors are a gift to replace.
if it is bricked then you will have to follow giggles suggestion and get the tsop removed and read externally.
