yes the benq liteon drives have the motor wires etc soldered as per your pic so you will have to desolder and resolder them correctly.
if possible you should dump your drive firmware and flash your key to the new drive when it arrives its a lot easier and less time consuming.

didnt hear it saw it with my own two eyes.
bought a replacement laser for hitachi and it was different model laser which didnt work at all when i replaced the laser
emailed the guy i got it from and he said to use the ribbon cable supplied with the laser as it had pads on opposite sides, switched out the ribbon cable and it worked a treat.

no the later revisions use a different laser and the ribbon cable is flipped on one end so thats why it wouldnt work.
hitachi 78 can be put into modeb by slax no idea why you were unsuccessful.
have you got access to another PC? if so try to use that to read the drives may have more luck there
all i can say that what you are attempting is possible and easy if you have your PC setup correctly so dont give up!!

you can use any hdss from any official drive to create the WD drive, you are simply cloning the official HD name and serial onto the WD drive to make it appear to be the official one.
google for the english tut easy to find and easy to do also if you follow the guide and IMHO i'd stick with the origianl release of HDDHACKR from the specialist seems to have best compatibility and less issues than the later releases

the hdss.bin is on the hdd not the mobo so the jtag exploit is not suitable
you can get a hdss.bin from the net if you look around or pm me your addy ill send u a 120gb one
how did the drive die? did it die whilst using xplorer360 as there is a fix for that on this board if you look for it then you will be able to grab your data and stick it on the new drive.

umm that would just blow his laser to $#!t do you have any idea what those pots are for?
if not do not offer retarded advice to people that will just make things worse.
the "insert this disc" message is generally when the key has been lost/replaced with invalid key
however i have noticed that on some frives this also happens when the laser is about to die, which is the case in your problem as you have not flashed the drive.
odd thaw swapping the daughterboards didnt fix it, try to find a laser that matches the model number in your original faulty hitachi, there are a few different types but im not aware that it matters if you swap em but obviously best to replace like for like.
