you need the dvd key from the dead drive to inject into the new one without it, it will not read games only DVD and CD

unless you dumped your elite NAND before you updated past 7371 kernal there is nothing can be done to restore live for that console

if it is a 83850 v2 drive then you have to do the soldering trick on the board, it cannot be dumped by JF as is.

a bad dump will not throw any errors in nandpro only a bad block in the nand chip itself will

your cable is the most likely culprit had a similar issue with mine but only had max 17 differences

fixed it by shortening the cable to about 30cm and shielding the cable with tin foil (Ghetto but works!!)

as max says messing with your PC will also cause bad dumps as nandpro isnt multithreaded, stress your CPU and expect rubbish in the dump

its best to hit read and walk away from the computer and dont keep your phone near it also ive found that it can interfere with the dump and cause errors especially with a non shielded cable. my pc case is acrylic and that gave out huge interference to my setup, having the side off your PC can also do this.

also if you an read the voltage of your LPT port if you get 3.3V from it you can omit the resistors completely.

the 'dos' programs you are referring to, do you mean the bat files used to dump the hitachi?

those run in a msdos prompt (cmd.exe) and not in true dos, like dosflash16 (not32) does.

id still love to see your dos app that reads a bricked hitachi that would be userful if real.

well if that was the case then you have changed your drive key, nothing else, the drive would still play dvd movies just not games.

also the symptom of dead laser is the disc only spinning for a second

when you insert a disc the motor spins and the laser checks for a disc if it gets reflection it knows there is a disc and if there is no reflection it stops the motor as there is no disc

if you are getting open tray errors and discs wont read perhaps you have fuxored your laser?

replace the laser and if you still get errors then replace the whole drive if you have orig.bin and key etc.
