a fluke...sounds like there was a cold solder joint which was agitated when you opened the system, thus re doing the solder joints should work and fix your problem

One of my other friends also has a 215, his works perfectly to...but the 216 I think is a different story - if you look on g00gle everyone seems to be having trouble and the ones that aren't just got lucky (or maybe got a newer one off the line ?). I don't think the firmware is an issue, i'll talk to my friend who has a few and we will try some stuff....

just do what n00bpwner360 said...don't worry about hiding it just place it anywhere, put some tap down on wherever you intend to put it then put some tape on top of it to hold the resistor down and solder a wire to each leg and to each pad (resistors don't have a polarity, meaning it doesn't matter which wire goes to which pad). the HDD sounds fine, the Xbox sounds to be the problem....re doing the pins is easy - take out the board locate the HDD connector and grab your soldering iron (I use a 60w but BEWARE you can use a 25w but it will take quite a while) touch it on the pin and add a little solder. Do it to all the pins, and wala

Ok, so it's not just me - bought one of these drives the other day and I thought well definitely because the 111,112 etc, are good drives this one can only live up to it's reputation. Installed it (in a customers PC), worked fine, burnt some songs on cheap media (Imation - it's not too cheap, it's still decent - better then Ritek) as a back-up on 12x in Nero. Burnt all ok, went to restore files...was a little slow but this computer needed to be reformatted bad so I just accepted it. Get to 4/5 of the way through..CRC errors, try again, same thing.

So I think to myself, oh well, that's what you get for using cheap[er] media - then I spoke to one of my friends who bought a few and was also installing them in customers machines and said that almost every single drive he installed had problems [inc a 360 game he ripped, burnt on Verbatim]...so it's not just me.

I was just wondering has anyone else had this problem, and if anyone knows exactly why (seems they are using $#!ttier parts now).
