This is dangerous, it's almost like the "towel trick", yes it may work for 5 minutes - but in the meantime your causing harm and serious damage to other components. Use a heat gun and don't skip on the process, check if there are any missing/broken smd caps on the back of the CPU and GPU as well (as the heat generated by either or both of these chips tends to screw up those particular components).

I thought I wouldn't comment on it but I will, the towel trick is when you wrap your Xbox 360 up in a towel and leave it on...as it warm up the air inside gets hotter (like a heat gun) and eventually people think it has fixed the problem....want to see a vid search in you tube...now...as for the damage you are doing, I HIGHLY DO NOT recommend this because not only are you causing serious overheating but your damaging other components servilely. I'm going to try the silicon I use when re-doing smd caps on the back of the gpu and cpu (as when it's properly dry and strengthened it will not melt, just turn very slowly a little sticky while still holding shape) to stick down the chip (I have a gini pig :p) and let you know how it goes... While i'm doing that...i *might* do a dvd drive window and another awesome custom mod !! gigabite

So your saying that if I can find something that dosen't melt with heat...I should glue down my GPU and CPU I also know what your saying about the heat sink clips as well - of course it doesn't help when the owner has tried to pull it apart too...I haven't pulled my box apart yet i'm to lazy hmmm interesting gigabite

cool thanks for answering mate - I can't test if the chips have cold solder joints because the box is still all together and not apart but I suspect it's the GPU or CPU....new mod idea coming up !! (and it dosen't involve gluing down the chips hahahaha that really is a funny thing) gigabite

Hey guys, well where do I start...I DID like NFS MW until it killed my console and the console I repaired...there is something that just dosen't work with something...(anyway I still like it : p) onto the weird thing...Now I started having problems (on the repaired console and my own - both of them had good amount of hours of game play on them and never had a problem (both boxes have siliconed smd capacitors under the CPU/CPU - maybe I should do the CPU and GPU as well like in the new Elites XD haha) ) BUT...I was able to boot to the dash twice and then after say a minute i'd get lines then frozen...after the second time I booted finally 3 red lights (this is the weird part) I finally see what I had been looking for but then...the box boots while the 3 red lights are flashing and I have no GFX errors or anything while booting (I could open and close the tray fine and move around in the dash) then after approx 2 minutes it gave lines then I had to restart (still booting to the dash, just dosen't have the red lights)...in the time the red lights were flashing I was trying to find the camera but I couldn't (I also should have grabbed the code, although I suspected it was probably 0102). So this means the box new it had a hardware error but it still booted ! My PSU light was green, DVD drive was fine, HDD attached was fine (tested now on another console and it's fine), controller fine, browsing through dash fine...I don't understand ? It shouldn't have booted...thing is that i'm a bit mad about is NFS MW game, it's a console killer Funny thing is on all of my own personal consoles i've had it was THE last game I was playing before the console died !? Ah well, i'll fix this pImP and sell him on eBay - question...new elites, can they still run with RCA cords (red white yellow) ? gigabite

It's about half a finger long, I think 20 pins on each side (there are two sides), it's black and it has the word "Elite MT" marked on it in a dull white...look for my tutorial I think it's called "repairing ms 25" - can't find it give me a PM and i'll send you a link

By controller you mean the Elite MT chip as that's what (%99.9 of the time) gets fried...if you have a spare Elite MT chip from something (with the same numbers etc) or you can get a dead Samsung from an Xbox 1 then de-solder the Elite MT chip and it'll work - - - the key will still be on the drive gigabite

Take out all IDE, SATA whatever drives out and only leave the floppy in... (if you BIOS has the option of "Plug and Play OS" then turn it to NO) get Xtreme Boot Maker, get it to detect your chipset while your there apply both bokes ms 28 patch and the ms 28 bad flash patch, get the mtklflash.exe and mtkflash.typ from that - put it on a bootable floppy...boot the floppy once it's booted turn on the 360, you can do it whenever as long as you boot it up before you put in the following code - ...type in either (and this is a trick to show you that you don't need the vcc switch) mtkflash /sata r /m orig.bin or mtkflash r /m orig.bin (sometimes with certain drives one command work sometimes the other works, they both do the same thing but the /sata tells it to look for a drive on SATA ports (your card or port on your motherboard) then it should give you Xtreme Primary Master : 1 (because you pulled everything out) if it gives you Xtreme Primary Master and it has a different number (for example 2) then put in the number that goes with Xtreme Primary Master....at this point turn of the Xbox 360 and DO NOT wait 10 seconds (as code 70 is displayed right after power on so the 10 seconds is 10 seconds of your life wasted not needing to wait :p) hold one hand on the 360's power button and one finger on the number (for example 1) which you got Xtreme Primary Master : x ....turn them on at the EXACT SAME TIME ! I you get it right the first time it will start reading (use the exact same process for writing, except replace the commands) - if not try again and you'll eventually get it I've flashed heaps of 360's, i've never needed the 0800 disk OR needed to use the VCC trick. gigabite

Well yeah looks like you got the wrong key, no key or it's in the wrong location - try backing up the firmware and posting a dump (or you can check the key with FW toolbox - if it dosen't pick it up, open it up in a simple hex editor go to location 4000 your key should be on that line and the line above 4000)

read... Well you see I don't know if your talking about the mercury tilt switch (which when you move the console from flat to upright makes a slight sound) - which changes the position of the lights on the ring of light....or....a component has come loose... gigabite

Well you see I don't know if your talking about the mercury tilt switch (which when you move the console from flat to upright makes a slight sound) - which changes the position of the lights on the ring of light....or....a component has come loose...if you still have your warranty send it to M$, if not pull it apart and look carefully under the CPU/GPU heat sink clamps to see if you have any broken, loose or missing smd capacitors, if you don't notice anything there THEN try the heat gun method gigabite

Now come on uberfry...mate get over the heat gun fix and start working on the real issue here of actual broken parts...NOT *ALL* boxes have bad BGA's - - - to replace them I use ones from an old Xbox motherboard and I also use them from a 360 motherboard. I use capacitors that are the same size and colour (thanks for the reading may be helpful if anyone finds where to buy a "lot" of these - havn't tried searching)...i'll say that you have to have some skill and look for one of my posts I think it's called something like look carefully before you pull out the heat gun, it's a small sort of tutorial... gigabite
