The only way to fix this problem currently is to send it back to M$ (unless you soldered in an infectus chip prior to updating, and dumped your kernel...then just re-flash it...but I doubt that) BUT, you may be lucky try a couple of things (might work) like, getting the latest update on your HDD then attaching it to your bad console OR reset the console with a code (sorry I can't rember it, not the clear cache code reset the console to clear updates - someone ?)  you can only hope !

yes, when flashing any Hitachi...the area around the key gets patched and anything that is done...is revesable without the original fw...if you want the fw that's currently on your drive, use fw toolbox to dump the fw Wink

Ive only ever used the via8237 with 10sec trick for ms28 drives from what i remember u need to do the vcc method

That's not true, I have a friend who has the same chipset and the same drive and he has never ever had to use the vcc trick (I could have possibly miss-understood your post, sorry if I have)

I know someone who flashed there 360 with one of these PCMCIA cards, by all logic the one on the link provided should work (as long as mtkflash doesn't have an issue)

no offense but if you read his post "Xbox 1 backup - no boot." then my post "with the back up Xbox 1 games..." i was strictly only talking about backed-uped Xbox 1 games

mod chip...with a switch for dual boot, I have seen something like this for the 360 called Devil 360 (but if you skilled enough to install this, then buying another chip and soldering it on (would be easier - you still have to remove the epoxy either way) would be cheaper

with the back up Xbox 1 games...the files on the disk MUST NOT BE MODIFIED or made with Qwix or any other xISO maker...other than gdfimage, because...xISO makers like Qwix modify the default.xbe file...resulting in a broken signature which the 360 will refuse to boot and give an error (don't rember off the top of my head)...AND i'm not 100% sure but,i believe iXtreme 1.2b does not support Xbox 1 games on single layer disks...

Hey buddy, you have fried your EliteMT chip on the DVD drive motherboard...replace it (search my posts for a tutorial or PM me) and you will have a working drive Wink

When i start windows with the Sata cable connected; it does state my drive at the beginning of the boot process ( HL-DT-STDVD-ROM GDR3) but when i get into windows, i don't see the drive letter anywhere..??

Try one of two things:

Right click on My Computer, Manage, Storage, Disk Management...if you see your drive there (or in the whole "Storage section") but it has no drive letter assigned, assign it one manually...

Go into device manager, and search for new hardware

Your drive *should* be picked up now Wink

lol, thanks for the tip i'll try it with this chip hear...no dead drives around but I have a couple of dead fw chips.  I figured out the problem with mtkflash and it identifying the chip as the wrong type - I didn't have a power source connected from the original chip to the extra chip, problem solved with that...now onto the next one...yes it's a PLCC correct socket and all, no no hammer hehe :p  thanks mate

1971  Xbox 360 / Tech Support 360 / un-usual problems with mtkflash and SST chips...? on: July 21, 2007, 05:40:28 AM
Hi everyone, yesterday I got 2 SST 39SF020A's (70-4C-NHE)...they were for making a dual boot DVD drive (only 1 chip)...I went to program them with my Williem and it does not flash the chip it gives the error "Error at 0x000000 Chip = 0xFF buffer = 0x02" yet I have never had any trouble flashing these types of chips before...I thought ok i'll solder it onto the other chip and continue..(if it makes any difference I followed the Tightmod tutorial by littlejohnny - I soldered (according to the tutorial) pins 4 AND 5 to a resistor to pin 15 to one side of the switch...same thing then ground in the middle - the switch works properly because on one side it boots with original fw, other side of switch e65...nothing on the chip.  So I started up mtkflash...detected my drive...at Xtreme Primary Master I turned the 360 off (as usual) then flicked the switch to change chips to flash, boot the 360 and press one at the same time...port crap then it identifies the flash type as SST25VF or something along the lines of that (not the normal flash)...as a result it just hung at updating 0% (obviously mtkflash does not support this chip?)....now on the top of this chip it identifies itself as SST 39SF020A's (70-4C-NHE)....so why is it appearing as a 25VF whatever Huh?? I tried finding the same chip type in my programmer's software (so maybe i could de-solder it and program it manually...as a i first intended too) but it wasn't there.  I would really appreciate some help on this one as i'm quite puzzeled, does it have something to do with the fact that I soldered pins 4 and 5 (VDD and NC-No Connection) ??  I am using XP PRO embedded with SP2, programming software is Williem Eprom (0.97ja)

please help me!! Smiley

gigabite - thanks

EDIT: mtkflash detects the chip as SST(SST25VF040)(Serial)

EDIT AGAIN: (http://forums.xbox-scene.com/lofiversion/index.php/lofiversion/t600965.html) and quote "If sst 39sf020 is disabled, no chip or lost power due to bad vcc trick use, Mtkflash reports sst25vf040. The other clue is e65 error rom has failed to function because f/w flash (sst 39sf020) cannot be seen by mt1359se!" so how do i fix that Huh  Oh and the drive is an ms28 wich had black glue (and I tested it multiple times before I put the other chip on top of the original...games still boot and run fine...even with the new chip installed...annnd I have flashed the origional drive before with X5.3...edit I just rethought my set up....pins 4 and 5 are soldered together etc....but there not soldered to the original to get there power i'm thinking they should be soldered to the origional ha but i'm not 100% sure don't wanna blow teh bottom fw chip, black glue is a bigger bitch then white glue

Why didn't you first use iDump to backup your original FW? And then iFlash to get it updated? That way you should have your orig.bin on the USB boot stick.

iPrep would not have continued or started to flash if you did not have a valid orig.bin in the backup folder...(then you said you lost it later...bad news for you lol)...what you read about patching around the key was the Hitachi firmware.  The firmware for the Hitachi's patches around the location of the key Wink

I don't think it's a problem with iXtreme 1.2 ...cause I have Xtreme 5.3 flashed (because I don't use live and I want the extra features 5.3 holds) and I have the same problem...This was on a brand new 360 (my own), The problem however was fixed after I put my old HDD back into the system (just to transfer some save games)...I was (and still am) running a new HDD and I applied the 4552 update...then I updated to 5xxx with the old HDD...even after I had the old or new HDD not attached it booted up faster...definently :/

1975  Xbox 360 / Xbox 360 General Discussion / Re: ntd60n02r part on: July 17, 2007, 02:58:00 AM
If you were to blow a MOSFET on the 360 you would get these symptoms (taken from XS - assuming i read the right thing):

-Xbox 360 turns on, and flashes 3 red lights IMMEDIATELY (not after a few seconds like on some other failures, such as the dreaded 0102). No picture on the screen.

-Fans do not spin, and PSU may show red or orange light.

-After it shows the 3 red lights, secondary error code will be 0001 or 0002.

-Nothing connected to 12V or 5V works (no measurable voltage on the line).

-Resistance from 12V to 5V is very low (around 1 ohm).

buy the definition of "the latest firmware" you mean iXtreme 1.2...?  If so, you *should* again *should* have no problems playing back-ups online (bearing in mind that only stealth back-ups will boot online or offline, i.e games made using XBC and a drive flashed with Kreon)...however, use on LIVE at own risk as stated in the readme

I had a board in one time with this error, when the owner tried to install an XCM case he had a wire running the fans at 12v which was ever so slightly un-covered...it was touching the metal shield.  A bit of tape on the exposed wire fixed the problem Wink  Just check for anything shorting (wires, shavings of metal...one tiny strand from a piece of copper wire, etc)

i'll be honest and say i've never connected a 360 hard drive to my computer BUT have you tried device manager (get it to search for new devices) or, have you tried right clicking on my computer, clicking on manage, disk storage (and if you see it) assigning it a drive letter, or clicking removable storage instead...try booting the computer with the hard drive attached or try attaching the hard drive after the computer is booted (I have trouble getting drives recognized when I boot the drive before the computer) - sorry if I wasn't any help mate Wink

1980  Xbox 360 / Xbox 360 "Modding" / Re: So...what do you think :) ? on: July 13, 2007, 07:42:55 PM
I've since updated my 360 a little bit (just some better things) anywho, Blob I was looking at making a custom GPU to hold a fan (I had a couple of spare ones and I found an Xbox 1 fan) but to do that and have the dvd drive sit on top...wich is the problem you need to cut away some fins of the heatsink...then the fan will be able to cool the core of the heatsink....but I thought about it some more and decided not to do it (instead I stuck the Xbox 1 fan under the dvd drive on the front right corner to cool the memory) because (in my mind) the way the air is currently being sucked is more efficient then cutting away the fins on the GPU and sticking a fan on it.  Even if you did go to add a fan for whatever reason it'd have to be just the right size to not affect the dvd drive (even with the fins cut away). Wink
