Are you sure you are using the right pre-hacked image? I didn't think any of these were called new_xell,bin.
You could always build your own hacked image (which is the preferred option) with the build.py script.
Utar
Build your own image can be *very* frustrating if you are running windows. I already had to hunt down the python cryptographic extensions only to discover that I need to downlad Visual studio 2008 express to compile it and generate the files required for the install. Extremely frustrating. The only good thing I see with all this is that the python based Wii cryptographic tools will work for me along with the free60 scripts... (Downloading the required files, hope it works )

I'm tired of this motherboard. As it was screwed up already when I got it (had no video) I'll retire it from normal game playing and it will become a homebrewn only system.
Yes, like yours, it's working perfectly fine with the free60 hack so I'll just keep it the way it is right now.

First thing that came into mind was maybe some sort of micro controller sending a "Sync" signal to the board through this custom I2C bus if it detects a button press. that would allow boards scavenged from a dead consoles to become a controller interface on the PC.

Wait, have you actually tried to use Infectus with NANDPRO?
Not at same time... What would be the point of using both ? And I prefer NANDPRO anyway... I prefer to write a single (and slower) time than have to erase the whole flash and try again several times D: Also NANDPRO wins because when it's acessing the flash nothing else will be trying to read it. (Since you're using the SMC to read the flash there will be no device conflict like what happens with Infectus and the SMC while you're using Infectus....) So ... No I didn't try to use both at the same time.

I've seen a console with that behavior. The owner damaged the motherboard (the tray status pin is not working properly anymore) so the XBOX keeps opening the door (*It* thinks the tray is half way because the tray status pin stays at a wrong voltage level)
He blew it that way because he plugged the drive to the XBOX motherboard with the drive already connected to the PC and it sparked inside the plug (voltage difference from the XBOX GND to the PC GND.
Edit: to fix some language errors.

Xbox 360 / XboxHacking - General / Re: How to put a DVD Writer in the X360

Hm ... Using the HDD port for the DVD is a bad idea as he can just use a normal XBOX HDD enclosure for his linux HDD and keep the cool case design of the XBOX360. He can then put a generic SATA cable on the DVD drive port and take it to his DVD burner. On the DVD pin header all he need to do is connect the tray status pin to +3.3v to make the SMC think the tray is closed (to quieten the blinking power led)
12v and 5v can be obtained from the motherboard and routed outside from the system through the tray hole (which will be gaped as the original DVD drive will be removed) along with the SATA cable.
Connect power and SATA to the burner.
Happy linux-ing for you !

The JTAG hack is not related to Infectus...
You can use it if you want, along with the JTAG hack. It's just that about the same time the JTAG hack released the NANDPRO tool was developed.
NANDPRO does the same thing Infectus would do for you: Give read and write access to the XBOX motherboard NAND FLASH. Infectus is faster than NANDPRO for programming but it's a bit clumsy due to poor programming on it's tools.
In the end it's up to you what you do. I own a Infectus v2 but honestly it's been sitting on a plastic bag for a while now... At most I tried to use it to restore some Wii NANDs a while ago. It didn't go well so I ended making a hacked Wii run with two NANDs and I used it as a chip programmer.

Could be a slim chance that the SMC GPIO pins aren't working.
Maybe if you install 3 leds and try to see if they blink...
Or maybe oscilloscope or even a logic probe to check the three pins and watch if anything is being output...
Because you're seeing the E79 screen, the zero pair image worked as intended. But the JTAG command was not received by the GPU, causing the normal boot to continue and end at the point it tries to fetch files from the flash.

A few days ago I was repairing a console that had the RED output blown (obviously it's ANA chip had it's RED output burnt out) I replaced the ANA chip with other ANA chip from a scrap motherboard. The XBOX stopped powering up even thought it had proper voltages everywhere.
Since the only part I tinkered with was the ANA chip, I removed the one I had just placed to get another one from other scrap board (this one had E74) and once I finished soldering, the XBOX did boot and all colors were there.
So I think you might have your ANA chip damaged when you did reflow it.
To be honest I didn't ever needed to heat a ANA chip for anything but remove it from a motherboard.
So from my own experience a blown ANA chip might make your XBOX not power on.

This thread is useless. No testing is being done in any kind of uniform fashion. Nobody has documented their exact setup, the order in which they did things, what exactly was edited, how it was injected after it was edited each time, nothing. This is all fixable. What is not fixable is people who are receiving information from the hackers who are doing the research, do not apply the knowledge properly and come back bitching. While I feel sad see the thread I started go sour like this, it's good if it's get locked after becoming a flame war. Guys, just stop to bite the hand that feed you. That's stupid. Lastly, I'm not a hacker, just a tinker. I followed what the hackers here developed and every single time it worked for me.

The Xell flash is empty (meaning it has kernel but no files) It relies on the exploit happening even before the system look for files so they are not needed. If the exploit does not happen, the console will have E79 (problem with flash files)
So check the JTAG wires (the wires from the holes to the other holes with 330 ohm resistors)

What you could do to test is flash the ixtreme 1.6 0800 FW and see if windows detect the drive and let you use it like if it was a normal DVD drive.
If that work you can be sure the drive is alright but there's something wrong with the firmware you're trying to flash.
You don't modify anything on the 0800 FW you just flash it (keyless, even as it's intended to allow the drive work with Windows) so it allows you to test your drive.
If Windows detect the drive and it still fail on opening the tray, the drive motherboard might have damage on the motors controller IC (the small chip with a metal center) so it won't eject or move the motors.
