1  Research & Technical XboxHacking (Xbox 360) / DVD-ROM Drive and Media / Lite on Drive errors on: July 15, 2009, 09:19:27 PM
Opened up the lite on drive, everything looks normal, when I have the top off the drive I can see the laser light up, spin up and light up again, so it is acting normal. However, when I put a disc in, the drive starts to spin up, continues to spin, then there is almost a grinding kind of noise.  So I eject the game out, take the top off again and the laser is in an abnormal place, its all the way to the back of the slider, instead of towards the disc spinning motor.  Anyone have any ideas of what could be wrong with this drive? Should I just fully replace it? Thanks.
2  Research & Technical XboxHacking (Xbox 360) / DVD-ROM Drive and Media / Help replacing dvd drives without original dvd key on: July 12, 2009, 09:29:00 PM
I've been reading around on how to get the xbox 360s motherboard codes because I don't have the original dvd key for some of the xboxes I have and I have heard infectus will get the motherboard code so that you can spoof a new dvd drive with that key and it should work on the xbox. I was wondering if anyone had more information on this or a tutorial, I'm not sure if its just a software thing or if I need the infectus chip or what, any help would be greatly appreciated because I'm lost. Also, does anyone know how to tell if the right dvd is in the right xbox? or will I just have to see if it reads xbox 360 games?  Thanks.
3  Research & Technical XboxHacking (Xbox 360) / DVD-ROM Drive and Media / Open Trey (but spins up for a sec) BenQ on: July 01, 2009, 04:02:58 AM
The BenQ dvd drive acts fairly normal, other than it doesn't fully spin up the game and continue to read it (tried both regular 360 games and burned ones).  Ejects perfectly, closes perfectly, then it starts to spin up the disc, the xbox screen says reading, then it immediately stops spinning the disc after a very short attempt (less than 1 second) then there are no noises/spinning/etc and the xbox screen says "open trey". Does this sound like a bad laser? Should I just clean the laser again, pot calib and buy a new laser if that doesn't work or is there something else i can try?  Thanks in advance for the help.

Hair ties work? The little black rubber bands.
6  Research & Technical XboxHacking (Xbox 360) / DVD-ROM Drive and Media / Samsung drive not opening properly on: June 28, 2009, 06:58:53 PM
Been working on an xbox 360 and the samsung drive isn't opening properly and it seems to have something to do with the casing of the dvd drive. I'm testing this with ck3, taking the casing off the xbox drive opens and closes normally, but seems to make abnormal sounds (when the trey is already fully extended, it sounds like a motor is continuing to push the trey out even though it can't go further out). When the drive comes in, it does the same thing, sounds like its trying to pull the trey in more, but its not, then once its done, it does the normal things such as the laser fires up twice and then dvd motor spins. With the casing on, the trey doesn't come out unless you tap the top. Then with the casing on, the drive comes in and makes a strange sound when the dvd motor is doing its spin.  Anyone have any idea what is going on or how to fix this?  Thanks for the help in advance.
7  Xbox 360 / Tech Support 360 / Re: Hitachi 79 not spinning up on: May 06, 2009, 08:57:44 PM
In both of them?  I mean, neither of the drives are working when I switch the lasers.  I'll try to snag another laser from one that I know and test it, but I don't think both of them have a blown laser.
8  Xbox 360 / Tech Support 360 / Hitachi 79 not spinning up on: May 06, 2009, 07:59:04 PM
I have a couple Hitachi 79s laying around so I started to mix/match parts to see what is wrong with them.  Hitachi 1 (H1) isn't spinning up and Hitachi 2 (H2) isn't reading discs, both giving the open trey error.  Neither of these drives have the magnet issue and cleaning the lense isn't helping.  Anyway, I took the Laser out of H1 and put it in H2 and tried each drive in their respective xboxes.  H1, which wasn't spinning before, started spinning, which was really strange cause all I did was replace the laser.  So, I put the good laser back into H1 and now it isn't spinning again.  Anyone have any idea of what is going on?  Thanks.
