You didn't mention what country you're in, so no one can really help you source parts.
XBR is the way to go these days, you don't even need a second NAND for it. (Cygnos not required)

When following Magus's method, my Hex Workshop only displays a bunch of 0 and few lines (enough to only fit the currently displayed on the desktop) worth of them before or after I restore them (in other words, what I see displayed is the same regardless of restoring or not). Is this normal? If not, what can I possibly be doing wrong? running 160gb Seagate here.
My Hex Workshop displayed everything at first, but later only showed a page worth of zeros as you described. I ended up taking the linux route. --- I just transferred everything from my 120 BEVS to my 500 BEVT, thanks to this thread. I used DougTheSlug's post (like patstew's but easier to tell what I should be changing). The offset values from patstews post on page three were key, because searching the HD takes a while. The value for 120GB was exactly right for my BEVS. Thanks guys! One thing I should note is that /dev/null did not work for me, but /dev/zero did. (Ubuntu 9.04 HD install)

I never said that cat5 should only be for ethernet. I always have spools of it, so I end up using the wires out of it in little projects all the time. I do think that a smaller gauge would be easier to handle for soldering the jtag and lpt connections here though. Just my opinion.

I see, it's setups like this that are responsible for his confusion. http://hackingjungle.com/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=141Sorry for being so snippy w3bmaster, I just had no idea where that idea came from. It seems like people use cat5 for just about anything these days. I've seen people run serial, audio, even VIDEO(not over IP) over cat5. It just means that they're using the cable for something other than it's original purpose, a network card will not be useful for any of those implementations. Only network. Something I wonder about though, one of cat5 cable's biggest strengths is the twisted pairs used to remove/reduce interference to/from other pairs. But if you use twisted pairs for two signals that are not opposite of each other, would you be *more* likely to introduce interference between them, or just no better (or worse) than straight wires?

I was thinking, would it be possaible to use one of these on a JTag so you can use a USB connection to your PC ?? Ok, so by "on a JTag", I guess you meant "on a JTAG'ed box". I was thinking, would it be possaible to use one of these on a JTag so you can use a USB connection to your PC ?? And by "use a USB connection to your PC" you mean "use this as a USB interface to flash your NAND". Please, understand the confusion with your statement. You can connect ethernet to your LTP from your motherbord, So i was thinking maby you could connect ethernet straight to USB....
I've never seen ethernet connected to an L PT port before. The closest thing I've seen is serial adapted to an RJ45 for a long run. But it's still serial, not ethernet. Either way, no, that device is going to be useless for this application. There is a PIC based USB solution that you could use for reading and writing your NAND. It would work for you since you don't need an LPT port for it. Schematics and source are posted in these forums, but I think you'd still have to built it yourself.

Xbox 360 / XboxHacking - General / Re: Initial Setup on XBR after E79. Why?

No, I've never plugged in a usb keyboard.
The causes of the E79s were my own fault. A couple times I tried to boot XBR on my original NAND while the stupid !SWITCH was still there (switching it to my cygnos NAND). Also I switched the video cable from HD to SD while in XBR and it didn't handle it well. And sometimes I perhaps I didn't wait long enough after powering down to start it back up (perhaps pull power first?). I've read that changing my cygnos JTAG to be resistor-less should help that last one.
Anyhow, I'm not faulting XBR for the E79s. I just don't know why I have to run through the initial setup each time it happens. I've read a few other people mention this in passing on these forums. Where is this information stored?
Edit - If I feel froggy tonight I'll dump my NAND, then boot and shutdown, dump, invoke an E79, dump, boot until the config screen and power off, dump, boot and set settings, dump, maybe boot again and dump, then boot and change more config settings. Then compare.

Wow, this whole thread is fail.
Yes, the LPT can be removed after flashing, but not the JTAG. FLASHING YOUR NAND AND JTAGING ARE NOT THE SAME THING.
No, ethernet and LPT are NOT the same. Any other random-ass devices you want to suggest?

Xbox 360 / XboxHacking - General / Initial Setup on XBR after E79. Why?
|
on: January 15, 2010, 11:23:51 AM
|
|
I've got a Falcon running XBR 3a. I use a Cygnos v2, though I have XBR on the 360 NAND with !SWITCH disabled.
Generally it all runs very smoothly for me. But I notice that whenever I do something that XBR or the JTAG setup doesn't like, I get an E79. I'm not complaining about the E79, I have been tinkering with many things trying to better my understanding of it all. But after each E79, I have to go through the initial setup again. Then tell my console to auto log my profile in, don't auto-run discs, etc.
Why is this? Where are these preferences stored?
Again, it's not a dealbreaker or anything, but I wouldn't mind being able to prevent this. Or at least get a better understanding as to why it happens.

The big question is whether or not you have your old drive or key. If you do, you can grab a tutorial on jungleflasher. It's a relatively easy fix.
If not, JTAG is the only way. The problem is, you may not be able to JTAG. Check your dashboard version in the xbox menu, if it's 8xxx you cannot JTAG. If you've been on LIVE in the past few months, or played a few new games (Like Modern Warfare 2) then you have 8xxx. Since your drive has been bad for 6 months, I'm guessing no on the new games.
