You'd need a hex editor that can write directly to a drive. Grab a hddss.bin from an official 120gb drive. Insert the contents of that file to sectors 16-22 of the drive. Then try and format the drive in the xbox. (connected to SATA port!)
If that doesn't work, you could try and manually create the partitions.
Do report back whether or not you have any luck.

I thought I read something about someone fixing this by adding the security sectors (hddss.bin) back to the front of the drive, then formatting in the box attached to the sata port.

Wow guys, is this thread really 34 pages of "how to fix your drive when you destroy pad 101"?
I'm not knocking the useful information here, it's definately a good goto for when you do mess it up, but jeez there are alot of people messing it up. If you have to solder to a via, get a fiberglass pen and scratch around the via first. This way solder will stick to it so much easier and you won't end up frying it by trying too long and over heating it. A fiberglass pen is a good thing to have anyway and they can be had for only a couple/few dollars.

If you have to go through the trouble with connecting the dvd drive to your pc to flash new firmware on there, I don't see how reading the original off is very much more work. Unless perhaps you have a SATA controller that doesn't play nice. So, to get the DVD-key via JTAG, it really isn't even necessary to do the full JTAG hack You still have to have the JTAG wires installed to run XeLL. So it is the full JTAG hack. Not using a rebooter doesn't make it less of a JTAG hack.

The DMCA addition refers to wireless telephones only, if I understood it correctly. But it does nothing more than making rooting/jailbreaking not longer illegal. Not that companies have to make it any less difficult. So, no, not relevant.
Nope, there's something in there about video games, but it still doesn't make anything easier, just less illegal depending on where and why.
Also, this entire thread is useless, I vote landfill.

Yes, you can disable the onboard memory unit, there are threads about this already. More or less you just blank out the NAND after a certain address. The Cygnos Toolbox even has a function specifically for this. You can do it with whatever flashing solution you use, though.

I know this isn't exactly what you're asking for, but it sounds like modifying a controller would be a whole lot easier. I think BenHeck did something to that effect, or someone on his forums if not him.
