it is one i ordered. i had a friend who was going to give me one but he ended up not coming through.

I tried geting it detected in windows without luck. also my sata controller wouldn't detect the drive.

I haven't dumped the firmware. i wanted to use a software method because desoldering tsop is harder and the adapter for my willem is one i would have to solder the chip to. If it comes to that i will do that but would perfer not.

i am going to building an adapter to power these drives from the computer today and perhaps that will help.

I really don't want to do the seventhson method of removing the resistor because i don't want to solder on the board if i don't have too.

sorry its taking me so long to dump this thing. it is my first hitachi to play with and i am having trouble geting mode b activated.

I was wondering if this connector next to the sata port is normally on all Hitachi drives?

I found a old Cpu fan connector to fits nicely to it

I did some continuity testing with my multimeter and found that the center pin is ground. the 2 side pins seem to go to the mn103 cpui.

when i turned on the drive and tested the 2 side pins with a multimeter i was geting 3.3 volt reading.

anyone have any idea what this is?
163  Research & Technical XboxHacking (Xbox 360) / DVD-ROM Drive and Media / Bad Flash testing on: April 19, 2006, 11:33:26 AM
OK i used MTKFlash to Erase my flash chip to test if a currupted flash on a drive would still be able to be flashed again.

I could not get MTKFlash to work with the drive anymore using the method with the harddrive. I don't have the tools to try the other methods of swaping with another dvd drive. That might still work. the problem i was having was that mtkflash wouldn't detect my drive after i currupted the flash.

So be carefull and don't flash anything bad to your chip because you might not be able to recover by software. There is always the option of desoldering though.

Where are these pads located? Let's imagine you are able to flash the replacement drive with a hacked firmware. How are you going to connect it to your console?
there are four header holes next to the ram on the TS mainboard. underneath the 2 center ones are labled RX, TX. one of the side ones is ground. the other side i tested with a multimeter and didn't get any voltage with it was on. i didn't look ot hard at it so i am not sure what that pin is.

I did wire up a max232 chip to the rx,tx and gnd lines. I tried some code to output the security sector to the SBUF(serial output). I had some luck with it outputing information on the serial port but the main problem i am having is geting an accurate baud rate. i discussed it more in another thread. i haven't found a solution yet. i was trying to get a 9600bps baud within a + or - 2-3%.

I soldered a 4 pin header to the spot and cut a small square hole in the bottom of my drive casing. i can plug in the serial port cable easily now.

I thought it might be usefull to embeded some serial output cues that might be able to help understand the flow of how things are working in the drive but i was using the Security Sector output as a test case that would be usefull to be able to dump several of them without having the dump the flash each time to extract it.

since i have a socketed flash on my drive i can easily recover from bad flashes.

I will try to do some testing with bad flashes with mtkflash and report back with success failures.
166  Research & Technical XboxHacking (Xbox 360) / DVD-ROM Drive and Media / Method to Read/Write Firmware with just your 360 harddrive and TS-H943A on: April 18, 2006, 07:55:24 PM
Woo I got a method that works with reading and writing from a ms25 drive without any ide>sata adapter or swaping with sata dvd-roms i don't have.

what you need is a sata harddrive and your Toshiba-Samsung Drive

since the via chipset i have always chokes on ms25 you have to hook up a sata harddrive to the sata controller. i used my xbox 360 harddrive but i tested with another sata harddrive and the method worked with it as well.

you start the computer to dos using bootdisk or other method(i used a usb stick to boot into dos)

you will of course need mtkflash 1.83c on the booted media

start your 360 with just the power cable connected to the dvd drive.

disconnect the sata cable from your harddrive and plug it into your dvd drive

i then ran mtkflash r backup.bin to backup a copy of the firmware
or do mtkflash w firmware.bin to write a firmware

after you backup/write the firmware you can't backup/write a firmware again untill you redo the whole process.

so if you do a backup of your firmware and then want to write a new firmware to the drive you would have to shutdown the computer and the 360 and start the process over.

I tested this multiply times and it worked fine each time.

Peace
BlueCop

Edit: i forgot to mention. i didn't need a second dvd-rom connected for a selection menu. it simply detected the ms25 drive and would do whatever operation i selected on it.

i used
mtkflash w /sata firmware.bin

i am anxious to see if this method works for you writing the firmware back to the drive.

glad you got it working k0mpresd
by the way looking at your firmware. your key is at 40EC

a patched firmware to play copied games for ethier drive is not available.

i said that the type of hack is possible for ethier drive though it is not public knowledge.
172  Research & Technical XboxHacking (Xbox 360) / DVD-ROM Drive and Media / Re: noob question about my key on: April 18, 2006, 06:00:44 PM
no it won't run your backup games. it will run your ORGINAL games only.

how to play backup discs isn't publicly available knowledge.

I am not a master hacker. i am just doing a really bad impressionation of one.
173  Research & Technical XboxHacking (Xbox 360) / DVD-ROM Drive and Media / Re: TS-H943 firmware dump by software on: April 18, 2006, 05:58:42 PM
don't have a convertor right now to try your method. i am looking for a good one that can do both ide>sata and sata>ide.
174  Research & Technical XboxHacking (Xbox 360) / DVD-ROM Drive and Media / Re: noob question about my key on: April 18, 2006, 05:54:27 PM
ethier drive will work in the 360 as long as the correct key for the 360 is in the firmware.

what do you mean by patched for disc copy?

do you mean a patch to play copied games? if so the hack is possible with both drives.
175  Research & Technical XboxHacking (Xbox 360) / DVD-ROM Drive and Media / Re: TS-H943 firmware dump by software on: April 18, 2006, 04:34:16 PM
i will become tomorrow my sata-dvdrom, so i can try your way tomorrow night..
will i be able to boot my original 360 games if i flash the dvd drive with the new firmware including my key?
where should i put my unique key in the new firmware?, at the same position like fw ms25?, or is this not possible at the moment?
no ms07 does not work with orginal games. don't flash it expecting better firmware. it is a buggy beta firmware. the whole point of this thread is to get a method to dump the firmware via software to obtain your dvd key. the secondary objective is flashing the firmware back to the drive which i successfully did with while running ms07.
i think your find it is only to dump the flash not (WRITE at the moment)

if you flash your drive you may kill it  Cry

not flameing just warning  Wink
mtkflash did work when flashing my drive from ms07 to ms25. the ms25 bin i had was the dump from my orginal drive with the correct key and when it flashed back to the drive it worked correctly in my 360. So those that order replacement drives from etech4sale and get a drive with ms07 can easily make a working drive for their 360 if they have their key from their orginal dvd drive.

On another note. i have been trying the tiros method of grounding the eject pin on startup to get the drive recognized by windows.

i have tried this several times and my via sata controller always chokes on ms25 firmware no matter what i try. i was abled to get the drive recognized by my my via software in windows using this method to startup the drive and then pluging the sata cable in while windows was running. i couldn't get the drive to populate though.

I tried mtkflash win with ms07 and ms25 running on my drive and it didn't find my drive as a compatible target.

all he is doing is coping someone elses work. It is pathetic that he doesn't even credit those he is coping.

Quote from: dooshbag
well lets give this the ol college try! Hopefully it will help you fellas out!

as you see the dooshbag here is giving the impression he is coming up with something on his own which isn't the case.

It will be interesting to see when it comes to reading/flashing the firmware if he just blatently steals SeventhSon applications.

I don't mind the step by step guide for disabled people but he seems to be wanting credit for all of it like he is f***ing magellan
177  Research & Technical XboxHacking (Xbox 360) / DVD-ROM Drive and Media / New GDR-3120L Firmware 0032CE on: April 17, 2006, 08:58:11 PM
got a Hitachi drive with a firmware which i don't think has been posted yet.
It has version 0032CE
It was manufactored May 2005.
X800475-002

I will get a dump posted once i am not drunk. just got back from sushi and drank alot of sake. I was celebrating a brithday

It might be later tonight or tommorrow when i get around to dumping the firmware.

178  Xbox 360 / XboxHacking - General / Re: toshiba samsung dvd flash firmware walkthrough and 360 iso creation on: April 17, 2006, 05:42:48 PM
yes i know what i am talking about mate. You have no idea what you are talking about. there is a unlocking sequence that must be issued to the drive to unlock the game partition. there are way to rip the games using a hotswap method with larger dvds in normal dvd drives.

the hitachi hack is not available.

where is this tutorials section that says it can read the 360 games?

you have no idea what you're talking about. maybe you should use the search button and read something before you post and prove your ignorance.

just to let you know there are mutliply routes to dumping xbox 360 games. some public and some not
179  Research & Technical XboxHacking (Xbox 360) / DVD-ROM Drive and Media / Re: TS-H943 firmware dump by software on: April 17, 2006, 04:32:10 PM
-booted a dos floppy with mtkflash 1.83c
k0mpresd: what is your problem with reading? i am tired of all this clutter in the threads with people who can't simply read a post. It is a determent to the forum as a whole. I can understand somewhat with the big firmware thread because its difficulty to navigate but this was simply at the top of the page.
180  Xbox 360 / XboxHacking - General / Re: toshiba samsung dvd flash firmware walkthrough and 360 iso creation on: April 17, 2006, 04:27:20 PM
no tutorial.
no hacked firmware.
no iso creation utility with the orginal drive.
no guides.
no you won't see the 360 game partition just the video partition which just what is played when inserted in a normal dvd rom.

edit: oh and i forgot to mention. yes they are largers then 4.7GB
