Thanks for the reply, i had a problem using an original bin FW also with FW toolbox.

I have finally managed it though:

Used slax for modeB
Made sure the drive was empty
Used C4eva Restore.bat (this only worked with an empty drive)
once i did this i was able to extract that FW insert the key, smart hack and spoof all with FWT 4.8 (which would not work unless i restored the drive back using c4eva restore with no disk in drive FWT obviousley needed an original or a dvd movie).

Ok that done, no backups play (dvds and originals do) But! this was a second hand driver from 2005, i thought maybe the laser is fubar,
I was right, i switched my newly flashed 47dj PCB into the 78FK and voila working backups!!

Thanks for your help, it helped me clarify a few things that the textbook does not explain so clearly.

So i have a spare PCB that i could get unbricked with no worries how long it takes, gets me a new laser and i have a spare drive!
(Nearly bought a brand new Hitachi 47 but they were out of stock, glad i didnt now!)

Ok that was a great experience and ive learnt alot, and finally a working 1st Flash (if going a little astray at first!)

Thanks again for your help!

OK hit a snag with the replacement drive. Its a 2005 47DJ. It goes into modeb with slax fine, viewed in windows fine and also plays a movie fine. I leave a movie in the drive and goto FWT 4.8 and do a direct GDR dump, select my folder and file name then Freeze!

PC freezes has to be hard rebooted. So i try the c4eva restore, it cannot flash the original FW back to it.

Any ideas? Im beginning to think I am jinxed!

Thanks

Thanks Gigabyte!

Of all the people I would have liked a response from it was you! I see from trawling through the pages here that you know your stuff.
This has clarified things for me now thank you very much, i just hope this drive is all it cracks out to be and is not faulty lol :/

I have the key handy in the dumped firmware anyway incase its not readable from my new 'Brick' lol. I may take you up onyour offer, though i am in the UK so could be a lengthy process Pcb going back n forth?

Anywayz thanks again I will bear it in mind Smiley

Oh and a note on the 47DJ replacement, can i just inject a key into an original FW from toolbox and differential restore? or do i need to do all the flashing from the c4eva folder like the textbook states? Would be easier if I could just use toolbox to inject key, restore (im guessing diff restore using a stock 47 FW) then hack, spoof, diff patch?

Thanks again!

Hi all, first post, but many reading on here, great stuff to be found and interesting reading.

Firstly i apologise in advance if these questions have been asked before. I have tried researching it here in the search and also elsewhere.

My Hitachi 78FK was pre-flashed as i had this console from a friend who cant remember who flashed it.
I have put the drive in modeb and succesfully extracted the firmware and key off the drive which registers in FW Toolbox v4.8 as:

Hitachi-GDR3120L-0078 - [iXtreme :78:V1.4-8x]

I have been having problems reading any backup media inc. verbs (unplayable disc/dirty etc during play or at load up).
My idea was to downgrade to a slower speed iXtreme 1.4 and try that.

Ok i ballsed up and bricked the drive. (Cue laughter and flamming!)

I succesfully flashed an original 78 FW with my key in to the drive and this worked ok and played originals fine.
I put the drive back into modeb and prep'ed a new firmware and i think i forgot the 'Smart Hack Patch', did a differential Patch and locked my PC up @ around 1/3rd the way.

My questions are:

1)It is mentioned that you can unbrick your drive using the willem/TSOP programmer (which is not beyond me, but I am useless @ soldering/de-soldering). What is stated is i need the orig.bin or original firmware. Now the question is can the firmware i extracted with my key in be used to unbrick my drive if i take it to a pro who can do the desolder the TSOP and reprogram? or do i need the actual original base firmware?

2)I have a 2nd hand 47DJ drive coming tommorrow, this may or may not be flashed with iXtreme, i do not know yet. Can i succesfully inject my key into this drive with FWT 4.8? or again does it rely on an original firmware from this drive? And i guess it will need spoofing to 78 also?

Thanks in advance, your help would be gratefully appreciated.
