I don't think you read the post. He said he sent in his xbox UNDER WARRANTY. and got back a new xbox with a hacked firmware and different serial number. Meaning they supposedly fixed it but in all reality they did nothing..

On another note, I just had UPS pick my xbox up today. Hopefully I'll get it back just as fast. The only thing that they could spot is, there is not metal sticker on the dvd drive/case which isn't really noticable. and the warranty sticker is visibly tampered. lets just hope since the problem I have with my xbox is an old, known problem and that my xbox was made in 2005 that they will fix it regardless.

They won't know the drive has been flashed. For all they know my xbox had a different case, or I was dusting out my xbox to try and fix the problem, or my little brother(that I dont have) was messing with the sticker.

Well, when I talked to xbox customer support they said the black and white SDTV problem was a known problem for a long time ago and sounded surprised I hadn't had it fixed already. So lets hope that the black and white problem requires a new mobo. This way the USB fix is automatic and they hopefully won't question the validity of the warrenty this way. Would it be better to send a slightly tampered warranty sticker or no sticker at all? I haven't figured that one out yet I'm sure thats the first thing they do. Pop off the faceplate and inspect the sticker. Saves them the hassle of fixing it. Then again, they want to have as many functioning xboxs as possible for title purchases right?

Ok, so I have the box to send it back in, and I have the firmware flashed back to original. This is what I've found.

First of all, the xbox recognizes my media center remote. WTF? its the one that came with the premium package. all the buttons work fine. Im so irritated.

Secondly, when I plug in my wireless usb adaptor(the 100 dollar one) it can recognize a wireless network and can connect, shows the strength etc, but it fails on the ip address... the wireless keyboard I have doesn't work either. I wonder why the remote works fine but nothing else does. any ideas comments? anything?

Im about to do this saturday. The console boots up fine, loads the games perfect. but it doesn't recognize any controler ever, and it used to. and it also displays SDTV in black and white and hdtv is fine. interesting enough, but I just want the controls fixed and have them send it back. The sticker is barely noticeably tampered, and there are marks on the back of the unit by the clips on the front by the sticker. lets see what happens. Got the box already, flashing it back on saturday. maybe tonight and sending back on monday. what is the average turn around time?

Whats funny is my live fails every time I try to connect. The test passed one time after like 3 triees, but has failed ever since then. Wonder whats up with my Live service. It should still pass the connection test even if your live subscription is expired right? I don't think it expires for a few more months anyways. Before when it was down it was failing on MTU. Now it fails on xbox live. weird.

EDIT: Played the Godfather for 10 minutes and now it works... Interesting.

The reason for my sarcasm is:

1. If there is a firmware check, they WILL catch you, that is if they ever make an honest attempt. If you are afraid of getting caught, then do not use the xbox live service, or the next best precaution you can take is to revert your firmware back to original or sell it and buy a new virgin xbox.

2. Posting random questions on a forum that is typically aimed toward being a resource is always going to be OT. Try X-S for your irrelevant xbox consultation.
